Control of Smart Structures Integrated with Piezoelectric Sensors and Actuators

Abstract
This paper presents a theoretical study of the control of active vibration damping of a composite beam using piezoelectric patch actuators and/or sensors. Smart structure system is modeled as proportional, derivative, integral, proportional-derivative, proportional-integral, derivative-integral and proportional-derivative-integral controller. Step response for all cases is demonstrated. Actuator and sensor parameters are critical in design of controller for smart vibration damping system. Keywords - Smart Structures,Smart Damping.
