A Study on the Performance of Microfinance Institutions in India SHG (Self Help Groups)

Abstract
According to World Bank, India’s 70% population belongs to rural area and 60% of them depends on agriculture, Microfinance plays vital role in provindin them financial support and hence is proved to be effective tool for socio-economic upliftment of developing countries like India. The present paper is descriptive and analytical study of the history of microfinance and SHGs(SELF HELP GROUPS), the role of microfinance and delivery models of microfinance in India, the performance evaluation of SHGs through loan disbursed and outstanding loan.The study shows total number of SHG savings with bank increased to 102.43lacs in 2019-20 from 79.03lacs in 2015-16 from which all women SHG was 3.53% more than that of 2018-19. . The number of SHGs extended loans were 18.32lacs in 2015-16 that increased to 31.46lacs in 2019-20 out of which all women SHGs were 16.29lacs and 28.84lacs respectively and Total number of accounts linked were 46.76lacs in 2015-16 that increased to 56.77lacs in 2019-20. Out of which number of women SHGs linked were 40.36lacs in 2015-16 that increased to 51.12lacs in 2019-20. Keywords - Microfinance, SHGs, Poverty Reduction, Growth of Microfinance.
