Assessment of Noise Pollution in Chandrapur City, Maharashtra

Abstract
The present study assesses the current levels of noise pollution in Chandrapur city and compares it to standards stipulated by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), New Delhi. It was observed that some places were hugely affected by high noise levels. The main cause of higher noise levels in Chandrapur city is the unplanned nature of the city causing traffic. For this purpose, a study was carried out at different locations of industrial zone, commercial zone, residential zone and silent zone for around a month recording daily noise levels by a Sound Level Meter. Chandrapur city is one of the historic cities of Vidarbha, Maharashtra. So an attempt has been made in assessing causes of noise pollution and most affected areas of Chandrapur to provide recommendations in future improvement of the current situation.
