Text Summarization of Indian Languages: A Review
Abstract
Automatic Text Summarization (ATS) is becoming much more important because of the huge amount of textual content that grows exponentially on the Internet and the various archives of news articles, scientiļ¬c papers, legal documents, etc. Text summarization automatically produces a summary containing important sentences and includes all relevant important information from the original document. One of the main approaches, when viewed from the summary results, is extractive and abstractive. This paper hands out a broad overview on the work done in the field of automatic text summarization in Indian languages using various text summarization approaches. The focal centre of this review paper is to present the research done on text summarization on languages such as, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Assamese, Konkani, Odia, and Telugu. The paper also discusses the evaluation techniques being used for assessing the summaries.
