Paper Title
A Qualitative and Quantitative Study of Various Planktonic Species in a Freshwater Fish Rearing Pond in BheelDudhi village of Dharampuri-Tehsil , Dhar – District , M.P. , India in Relation with Fish Farming .
Abstract
Plankton diversity is an important feature for the assessment of the water quality. The present investigation was Conducted on qualitative and quantitative analysis of phytoplankton and zooplankton in the kunda pond of Dhardistrict , Madhya Pradesh from March 2023 to Feb 2024 . Water samples were taken from the sites with the help of planktonic net and brought into laboratory for further Identification . A total of 10 Classes of Phytoplankton and Zooplankton were recorded in the study are out of which 4 classes belongs to phytoplankton and rest of remaining 6 classes belongs Zooplankton . The study reveals that the Classes of Phytoplankton’s found in Kunda pond are Chlorophyceae (17 genera) , Cyanophyceae (9 genera) , Bacillariophyceae (14 genera) and Euglenophyceae (2 genera) . Whereas the identified classes of Zooplankton’s were Protozoa (8 genera) , Rotifera (10 genera) ,Cladocera (11 genera) , Copepoda (10 genera) , Ostracoda ( 2 genera ) and Branchiopoda ( 4 genera) .
From the recorded data , quantitatively and qualitatively , in the case of Phytoplankton , Chlorophyceae is the most dominant group followed by Bacillariophyceae as the second dominant group , Cyanophyceae & Euglenophyceae as third and fourth respectively . While for the Zooplankton the most dominant group was cladocera followed by Rotifera , Copepoda , Protozoa , Branchiopoda & Ostracoda as second , third , fourth , fifth & sixth respectively
Results of the present study indicate that the kunda pond have rich plankton diversity . A pivotal relationship was observed between phytoplankton and zooplankton which is a good sign for fish culture and for the high growth & good health of Cultured fishes . In summer the plankton diversity decreases while during winter it increases . Here it was also noticed that the pollution also affects the plankton abundance in these pond .
