Comparison of Essential Oil (Sphaeranthus Amaranthoides) Breakdown Products in Fresh and Stored Essential Oils: Determination and Identification

Abstract
Various physio and phytoconstituents present in the plant Sphaeranthusamaranthoides were analyzed by using FT-IR gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The whole plant of Sphaeranthusamaranthoides was extracted. The aqueous extract was subjected to FTIR and GC-MS analysis to detect the physio and phytoconstituents. The confirmed functional groups (keto-enol tautomerism) in the reference FT-IR spectra suggest that the essential oil of Spharanthusamaranthiodes may include eugenol and its degravitation molecules based on its stretching frequency. The analysis of the GC-MS revealed a total of 6 compounds. Some compounds obtained have been reported to have the potential for prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of diseases in both man and animals.
