Concomitance of Psychological Factors in Predicting Close Relationship Autonomy

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the predictors of relationship autonomy in people in close relationships, focusing on satisfaction, investment size, and quality of alternatives. Relationship autonomy reflects an individual’s sense of empowerment and individuality within a relationship while maintaining harmony with their partner. Data were collected from 156 individuals in close relationships through questionnaires assessing satisfaction, investment size, quality of alternatives, and relationship autonomy. Results revealed that satisfaction and investment size significantly predict relationship autonomy, with satisfaction being the strongest predictor. Quality of alternatives was not a significant factor. These findings underscore the importance of satisfaction and investments in fostering autonomy within close relationships, highlighting the balance between individuality and mutual understanding in enhancing relationship quality.
