THE PATH FROM BIG DATA TO BIG IMPACT: CASE STUDIES ON EFFECTIVE BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE IMPLEMENTATION
Abstract
The growth of the concept of big data has refaced business intelligence (BI) meaning that organizations are able to gather large amounts of information to inform decision making. That is why this paper focuses on the topic of going beyond big data and turning it into actual business value by providing the reader with case studies of BI implementation. Through rich use of examples across industries, it shows how businesses apply big data analytics for enhanced organizational operations and customer satisfaction and product and service delivery. The case studies shed light on the practices for the implementation of big data, the issues pertinent to the quality of big data, its scale and security. These examples also show how best technologies including machine learning and other forms of analytics are used to turn large data sets into useful information for decision-making. Further, the paper also reviews the changes in organisational practice concerning data culture such as leadership engagement, inter departmental cooperation, and staff development. These findings also highlight the BI best-practice guideline of tying with specific organizational aims and objectives so as to derive the full benefits and achieve long-term success. Moreover, it discusses some success factors as data governance issues, privacy concerns and the perpetual requirement for innovation in the BI field. In totality, this paper wants to present a guide that organizations need to follow if they wish to gain from big data; this guides foundation is anchored on a proper implementation of strategic BI.
