Paper Title
THE EFFECT OF AI ON DEMOCRATIC POLITICS
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the landscape of democratic politics, bringing both opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, AI has the potential to enhance democratic processes by promoting informed decision-making, facilitating citizen participation, and improving government transparency. AI-powered tools can analyze vast amounts of data to identify trends, predict outcomes, and inform policy decisions. AI can also enable citizens to engage more directly with their government, providing personalized information and opportunities to voice their opinions. Additionally, AI can promote transparency by making government data and processes more accessible to the public. On the other hand, AI also poses significant threats to democratic values. The potential for AI to manipulate public opinion, spread misinformation, and exacerbate social divisions cannot be ignored. AI-powered algorithms can micro-target voters with personalized messages, exploit psychological biases, and create deepfakes that erode trust in institutions. Furthermore, AI can amplify existing inequalities and biases, further marginalizing vulnerable groups. For AI, theories like agenda-setting and framing theory can be used to interpret data and findings from these groups where we can see how AI identifies and frames political information through AI driven content or through algorithms. We can also find out the agenda and propaganda set by AI to help shape the transparency and political communication between AI and the audience public
