PROGNOSTIC UTILITY OF AQUAPORINS FOR DETECTION OF PROSTATE CANCER

Abstract
Prostate cancer is a complicated and varied disease that affects millions of men worldwide.Despite fast developments in molecular biology and technological innovation, few biomarkers for prostate cancer have emerged. The currently known biomarkers for prostate cancer prognosis are poor and difficult to use, limiting their practical value. There have been several prognostic and predictive biomarkers found for prostate cancer, however they lack the specificity and sensitivity required to aid therapeutic decision making. Specific biomarkers continue to have enormous potential for understanding the natural history and intricate biology of this diverse illness, as well as identifying early therapeutic responses. Accumulative research indicates that aquaporins (AQPs), a class of membrane water channels, may act as a predictive biomarker for prostate cancer in monitoring disease progression.
