Examining The Impact of Motivation on Well-Being of Employees in The IT Sector

Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to identify the impact of motivation on the wellbeing of employees in the IT sector. This is a study that focuses on assessing the impact of motivation( intrinsic and extrinsic) on the mental wellbeing of employees in the IT sector in Tamil Nadu which hasn’t been studied much. Three questionnaires were chosen to find out the impact of motivation on mental well-being. The questionnaire was distributed among the respondents based on a purposive sampling method. The findings of this study show a significant and positive relationship between intrinsic motivation and wellbeing. However the extrinsic motivation levels were overall higher in comparison to the intrinsic motivation levels, but did not significantly impact the wellbeing of employees to a larger extent. The target sample for this research comprises IT sector employees in Tamil Nadu aged between 18 and 60 years, encompassing a diverse workforce from early-career professionals to those with substantial industry experience. This broad age range ensures the inclusion of varied perspectives across different career stages, which may influence motivation and well-being. Participants must have at least one year of work experience in the IT sector to ensure they possess sufficient exposure to workplace environments, organizational culture, and job demands. The IT sector, known for its dynamic and high-pressure environment, provides a relevant context for examining the relationship between motivation and well-being, given its reliance on innovation, adaptability, and teamwork. By focusing on this specific demographic, the study aims to uncover patterns and relationships that are unique to Tamil Nadu’s IT workforce. This targeted approach ensures the findings are industry-relevant and can inform strategies to enhance employee motivation and well-being effectively.
