The Influence of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) from Areca Nut Husk on the Seedling Index of Areca Nut (Areca catechu L.) Varieties Saluang in Peat Media
Abstract
This research was conducted from July 2024 to December 2024, at the seedling location in Tembilahan Riau The objective of this study is to determine the effect of the application of POC from Areca nut husk on the seedling index of Saluang Areca nut seedlings with peat media, and to obtain the best concentration of POC from Areca nut husk that can improve the seedling index of Saluang Areca nut seedlings in peat media. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with a single factor, consisting of 5 treatments and 3 replications, resulting in 15 experimental units. The treatments consisted of the following POC concentrations: P1: 35 ml/l = 35 ml POC from Areca nut husk mixed with 965 ml of water, P2: 70 ml/l = 70 ml POC from Areca nut husk mixed with 930 ml of water, P3: 140 ml/l = 140 ml POC from Areca nut husk mixed with 860 ml of water, P4: 280 ml/l = 280 ml POC from Areca nut husk mixed with 720 ml of water, P5: 560 ml/l = 560 ml POC from Areca nut husk mixed with 440 ml of water. The results of the study showed that the application of POC from Areca nut husk with different concentrations had the same effect on all observed parameters, including plant height, stem diameter, dry weight of the shoot, dry weight of the root, and seedling quality index of Saluang Areca nut. The treatment with a concentration of 300 ml/l POC from Areca nut husk was found to be the best in producing the highest average seedling quality index of Saluang Areca nut seedlings grown in peat media.
