Automatic Railway Gate Open and Close System
Abstract
India boasts one of the largest railway networks in the world, and it remains the most accessible and cost-effective mode of transport for the common public. Despite its importance in daily life, railway safety, particularly at level crossings, often remains inadequate. Accidents occurring on railway tracks and at crossings are rising, mainly due to human error, insufficient resources, and outdated technology. This project aims to automate the railway gate system at level crossings to minimize the need for human intervention. It is primarily focused on two objectives: reducing the manual operation of gates and enhancing the safety of both commuters and road users. The proposed system utilizes infrared sensors to detect the train's arrival and departure. An Arduino UNO microcontroller along with a servo motor automates the gate’s operation. Such a system significantly lowers the chances of accidents and ensures reliable gate control at railway crossings.
