Rewriting the Margins: Subaltern Readings of Stuart H. Blackburn

Abstract
The present research has been carried out on the works of Stuart H. Blackburn, a sought-after scholar with specialization in South Asian oral traditions. Blackburn has spent many years in India, probing the oral traditions and culture of the North East and South Indian people, wherein his interactions increasingly shaped his views on oral folklore and the significance of these stories in their lives. The study provides detailed observations of some of the works of Blackburn, the history and its inevitable association to colonialism for these subaltern narratives. The research has carefully documented the efforts Blackburn has made in preserving the oral traditions by personally translating the stories and inscribing them in his works, the substantialeffect of colonialism as well as the resistance of the subaltern populace.
