Paper Title
MORPHO-TAXONOMY OF NOSTOCACEAN TAXA FROM RICE FIELD SOILS OF TRIPURA
Abstract
Environmental constraints influence the diversity of micro-organisms, their number and habitats. The present communication deals with the diversity of nostocacean taxa from rice field soils of Tripura, India. From the present communication we are reporting 20 species of Nostocales belonging to four different genera including Anabaena, Trichormus, Nostoc, and Cylindrospermum from the rice field soils of Tripura. Distribution pattern of Nostocacean taxa from rice field soils contains 17% from Unakoti Tripura, 15% of taxa from Khowai, 14% from North Tripura district, 13% taxa from South Tripura. Both Sipahijala and West Tripura district contains 11% while Gomoti and Dhalai district contains 10% and 9% of nostocacean taxa respectably. Maximum number of species was observed from the genus Nostoc. Maximum species was reported from the rice fields of Unakoti district while minimum was reported from Dhalai district. This distribution pattern makes Tripura a diversity rich region for nostocacean species.
