Paper Title
Generative AI and Adaptive Tutoring in Education: A Comprehensive Literature Review
Abstract
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has grown rapidly with the rise of large language models and generative tools. This review examines how AI-based educational technologies have evolved between 2021 and 2025, focusing on their impact on teaching, learning outcomes, and policy. It highlights three main areas: intelligent tutoring systems and personalized AI tutors, generative AI for content creation, and emotion-aware learning technologies. Studies show that AI tutoring can improve student performance by as much as 15percentile points, and AI-generated multimedia can enhance engagement. However, challenges remain in areas such as voice synthesis, ethical concerns about data privacy, and the need for effective pedagogical integration. While AI has the potential to transform personalized learning and automate educational content, responsible use requires evidence-based validation, supportive policies, and thoughtful instructional design. This review contributes to the ongoing conversation on ethical and effective AI in education by summarizing key findings and identifying future research directions.
