TASK-BASED LANGUAGE TEACHING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL: an TESOL CONTEXT

Abstract
Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) is a learner-centered approach that emphasizes the use of meaningful tasks as the core unit of planning and instruction in language classrooms. At the high school level, where learners are developing both linguistic competence and cognitive maturity, TBLT offers a practical and engaging alternative to traditional grammar-oriented methods. This article examines the theoretical foundations of TBLT, its key principles, and its relevance to high school English language teaching. It also discusses the role of teachers and learners, types of tasks suitable for adolescents, classroom procedures, and assessment practices. Finally, the article highlights the advantages and challenges of implementing TBLT in high school contexts and suggests strategies for effective classroom application.
