COMPARATIVE STUDY OF NARRATIVE IDENTITY, EMOTIONAL REGULATION, AND CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE AMONG INDIAN AND INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract
The growing phenomenon of globalization in higher learning has established culturally diverse academic environments where students from various cultural backgrounds interact and adapt to novel social and psychological environments. The current research will focus on analyzing the relative differences in the narrative identity, emotional regulation, cultural intelligence of the Indian and international students in the university level. The study used quantitative research approach and the structured questionnaire was given. of 335 respondents who are primarily undergraduate students. The study attempted to measure the narrative identity of the students through autobiographical memory coherence, emotional regulation through cognitive reappraisal and emotional suppression strategies, and cultural intelligence through metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral factors. The study findings bring out that the students have moderate levels of narrative, identity coherence, in which majority of the students can remember their experiences in life and develop their.. The results on emotional regulation highlight that the students frequently exhibit cognitive reappraisal strategies for emotional regulation, both for positive and negative emotions. Moreover, the findings indicate that the subjects possess a certain level of cultural intelligence, such as adapting communication behaviors and dealing with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The findings of the study are important for higher learning institutions because they emphasize the significance of psychological adaptability and cultural competence. The study contributes to the field of cross-cultural psychology and student development by focusing on the significance of narrative identity and emotionality in the development of cultural intelligence among university students.
