Social Science as an Indispensible Subject at Upper Primary Level and its Preponderance in School Curriculum

Abstract
Education is the process of acquiring knowledge and skills that people are expected to have in a society for a better social living. As education reflects a society, therefore, utmost care should be taken care of while educating young minds. Education not only develops an intellectual curiosity not in a single sphere but it provides lifelong learning of various subjects. All subjects have their own importance to develop knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits but one such subject that is really indispensible in school education at upper primary level is Social Science. It lays the foundations for an analytical and creative mindset which is essential for the overall development of a child. Moreover, it helps an individual to comprehend everything in a holistic way so that he/she can adjust to an increasingly interdependent world, and to deal with political and economic realities. Thus the objective of present study is to throw light on the importance of Social Science in school curriculum at elementary level.
