Morphological and Photoluminescence Studies of ZnO and Ti-Doped ZnO Nanoparticles

Abstract
ZnO and Ti-doped ZnO nanoparticles have been synthesized by sol-gel method and annealed in air at 450°C for 30 min to examine morphology evolution and various defects present in the nanostructures. The morphology observed by FESEM images confirms the formation of ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) which size decreases with doping the Ti more fraction in ZnO. Room temperature PL results indicate the near band edge and defect related emissions in the ZnO and Ti-doped ZnO nanoparticles. The PL results show that various defects like oxygen vacancies, zinc interstitials and grain boundaries are responsible for enhancement in the luminescence properties in the nanostructures which can be manipulated by Ti dopant cations and annealing effect.
