A Comparative Study of Depression, Hopelessness and Suicidal Ideation among Employees in Government and Non-Government Telecom Companies

Abstract
Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistenly depressed mood or less of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. Due to depression a person can also experience hopelessness and suicidal ideation. Hopelessness in a person may often reflect the negative view on future and this hopelessness can often lead to suicidal ideation. The main thrust area of this study is to see the Depression, Hopelessness and Suicidal Ideation among Government and Non-Government Telecom Companies Employees (20-40 years age). This study can help in understanding the nature of job pressure which has an impact on depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation on Telecom companies employees. The sampling techniques for the present study are mainly purposive. Total 120 employees of telecom companies (60 government and 60 Non-Government) (30 male and 30 female each) between the age group of 20-40 years have been selected for the study. To see the difference between Government and Non-Government Telecom Employees with respect to their depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation level t-test is used. Correlation is used to see the relation between depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation level across Government and Non-Government employees. Present study shows that both significant and non-significant difference is found in depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation among Government and Non-Government Telecom Employees. A significant difference is found in Depression of Government and Non-Government Employees. A significant correlation is found in Depression and Suicidal Ideation among Government and Non-Government Telecom Employees.
