Performance Enhancement of Microstrip Anteena using Defected Ground Structures (DGS)
Abstract
The concept of Defected Ground Structures (DGS) has been developed to improve the characteristics of many microwave devices. For this purpose the DGS is also used in the microstrip antenna for some advantages such as antenna size reduction, mutual coupling reduction in antenna arrays etc... In this manuscript compact microstrip patch antenna with defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed for wireless applications. Antenna with different shapes like circular shaped rectangular strip, cross dumbbell, cross circular rectangular strip are simulated by using HFSS. It has been found that antenna with cross circular rectangular strip offers higher bandwidth with good radiation properties required for Wireless applications.
