Paper Title
Multidimensional Approach towards Diasporic Literature in Selected Novels of Bharati Mukherjee
Abstract
Migration is an inevitable truth of the twenty- first century and a complex process. It is constantly changing the entire dynamics of the world around us. Due to rapid globalization, there has been humongous growth in the dispersion of human beings. Diasporic literature commonly deals with the themes of displacement, alienation, longing for the homeland, quest for identity, nostalgia and cultural hybridity to name a few. The research paper specifically examines the protagonist’s zeal for unveiling for her roots and simultaneously silent emergence of a new cultural synthesis. The new cultural synthesis acts as a catalyst in providing an opportunity to strike a sense of balance among the practices, values and customs of two or more different cultures, paving the path for cultural hybridity. This paper specifically beacons a multidimensional understanding of diasporic literature through the selected novels of Bharati Mukherjee’s Desirable Daughters and The Holder of the World.
