Paper Title
Migration in the Writings of Arundhati Roy

Abstract
In April this year, when the damages caused by Covid -19 were still less in number and it had just began to show its impact in India, Arundhati Roy, one of the dominant political thinkers of contemporary time wrote a powerful essay “This Pandemic is a Portal.” She has pondered over the lack of preparation with which the lockdown in India was announced leaving thousands of its migrant workers in utter helplessness. Suddenly on the silent deserted streets of cities and towns India’s poverty came out from hidden places and started walking. Men and women of all ages along with children walked for thousands of miles to reach their home. The sight raised deeper questions relating unemployment, homelessness and hunger. Migration is deeply rooted in Indian history. Since Independence and the Partition of the territory, the poor of the country have been forced to migrate time and again. This paper attempts to analyze Roy as a powerful critique of displacement and forced migration. Keywords - Migration, Displacement, Pandemic, Corporate Globalization
