An Overview of Impact of Covid-19 on E-Commerce in India

Abstract
The COVID-19 has brought unprecedented changes in the Indian economy. E-commerce industries ranging from health, buyer to customer, fintech, mobility have seen diverse consumer graphs from the series of lockdowns and unlocks that have been imposed from 25 March 2020. The way these industries have been dealing with their demand-supply chain is highly applaudable. The aim of the research is to analyze the e-commerce sector of the Indian economy in the COVID-19 era. The analysis is done based on primary data collected from the World Bank database for GDP and employmentdata of India and secondary data collected from the demand on the consumer end, company logistics, various government guidelines imposed over time and the ranging consumer goods shifts from the traditional methods. Concluding from these pointers, it was found that the sudden lockdown witnessed an upsurge in essential commodities demand. After the imposition of lockdown 1.0 and lockdown 2.0, there were limited allowances for e-commerce sales. But with the gradual upliftment and series of unlocks, e-commerce has been able to stand out with its services in a slow but steady manner. The e-commerce sector increased its share in the GDP and thus provided more employment. It was also proven in this study that with an increase or decrease in the GDP, employment increases or decreases by a factor of 0.103. The impact of COVID-19 has been positive on the e-commerce sector. The boost from COVID-19 would lead to an increase in the contribution of Indian e-commerce towards the GDP of India.
