Innovative Hydraulically, Electronically and Mechanically Assisted Four-Wheel Steering: A Review on 4-Wheel Steering

Abstract
Steering system is use to give direction to the vehicle depending upon the driver’s command. Four-wheel steering is a type of steering system which assist in the effective turning of the vehicle, improving the maneuverability and assist during lane changing. In normal driving conditions, the vehicle with higher track width and wheelbase face problems of turning due to large turning radius. In this project, turning radius is reduced without altering the measurement of the vehicles. In four wheel steering system, the rear wheels are coordinated with front wheels by a gear arrangement or linkage mechanism. This allows the vehicle to turn in a significantly smaller radius and assist during lane changing at faster speed than compared two wheel steered vehicles. In four wheel steering system, all four wheels turns at simultaneously when the driver steers. The rear wheels generally do not turn as the front wheels; they only assist the front wheels during high speed.According to news published in The Economic Times dated 28.dec.2016 which clearly stated that India ranks first in Road deaths in the world, where India accounts for 10 percent of global road accidents with more than 1.46 lakh fatalities annually, highest in world [1].By researchdone byNPTEL, BankBazar, Low man law firm mechanical failurethat causes road accidentsreports steering system to be onthird position [2]. ¬Keywords - Rack and Pinion Bevel Gear Four-wheel steering Rack and pinion Ackerman principle Stability
