An Overview of Cancer in Aizawl District of Mizoram, India

Abstract
The present study reported the occurrence of 30 different types of cancer from Aizawl district of Mizoram. The research also highlighted 4924 cancer cases during the study period from 2015-2020. Lung cancer accounts for the highest number with 13.57% followed by oesophagus cancer which is 13.32% of the overall cancer cases. Stomach cancer comes to third with 12.81%, which is followed by breast cancer which accounts for 8.98%. Cervix and mouth cancer are also another common form of cancer commonly encountered from the study area. Generally, male cancer cases are more than the female cancer cases during the study period. Among the different age group, 50-59 reported the highest cancer cases followed by the age group of 60-69. Cancer incidence is lowest in the age group of 0-10 from the study area during the study period. Many carcinogenic substances may contribute to the prevalence of cancer from the study area which includes pollution, smoking, alcohol, food habits etc. Keywords - Cancer, Carcinogens, Aizawl, Mizoram.
