Gender Violence- With Special Reference To Child Marriage

Abstract
Marriage is one of the most important social institutions in India and as India is dominated by patriarchal system of society there are more evidences of child marriage in India. In India 45% of girls are wedded below 18 years of age. Girls younger than 18 years of age are forced to marry due to many factors including poverty, illiteracy, and the belief of safety of the younger ones in the early age and so on. As this burning problem suppresses the personality development of the younger ones, there is lot of attention needed to be eradicating this problem at the global level. Though there are many laws and several acts which restraint the child marriage, still the problem persists and the present study focuses on the role of NGOs in eradicating child marriage especially in few districts of Karnataka where the magnitude of the problem persists on a large scale.
