Role of ‘Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana’ (PMMY) in The Entrepreneurship Development in India

Abstract
‘MUDRA’, which stands for ‘Micro Units Development & Refinance Agency Ltd’, is a financial institution being set up by Government of India for development and refinancing micro units enterprises, was announced by the Hon’ble Finance Minister while presenting the Union Budget for FY 2016 with a purpose to provide funding to the non-corporate small business sector. The purpose of the project is to study, measure and identify if the ‘Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana’ (PMMY) is able to help and assist the targeted Bottom of Pyramid to achieve sustainable development by creating an inclusive, sustainable and value based entrepreneurial culture, in achieving economic success and financial security. Project Objectives: The aim of the project is 1. To identify the ‘Bottom of Pyramid’ who have taken benefit of PMMY as ‘Mudra loan’ holders from Pune Division of Maharashtra State 2. To study the factors leading to development of general entrepreneurship and women entrepreneurship among the Mudra loan holders as PMMY beneficiaries 3. To measure the development of general and women entrepreneurship among the Mudra loan holders as PMMY beneficiaries Coverage: The Non–Corporate Small Business Segment (NCSB) beneficiary entrepreneurs of India who have taken loan under PMMY are the universe of the study. Sampling Frame: The sample is chosen from the PMMY beneficiaries located in Pune region of State of Maharashtra. Sample Size: Out of 159 beneficiaries we have reached, we have received complete data of 89 Mudra loan holders who are beneficiaries of ‘Shishu, Kishor and Tarun’ schemes of PMMY. This research is part of sponsored research project of ICSSR in the year 2016/17, (F.No.- 02/378/2016-17/RP).
