Smart Braille Writer

Abstract
This project delineates the design and development of a braille-based electromechanical system for the deaf, dumb and blind persons to communicate effectively with the society. The system receives inputs through OCR technology (using USB camera) and voice commands (using portable microphone). 12 servo motors were connected to an in-house developed braille system and controlled by Arduino UNO and python script. As per the input received, corresponding servo motors were triggered to create a braille impression for the user. Braille considers the tactile sensation felt by the user through the embossing or other raised forms. The triggering of servo motor was as per the universal Braille Language. This is a low-cost and portable system which aims at social upbringing and togetherness of differently-abled persons. Keywords -Braille language, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), PySerial.
