Paper Title
A Study on Virtual Maps for Important Military Terrains Using Geographical Information System

Abstract
This paper presents an innovative idea on how Geographic Information System (GIS) can bring tremendous transformation in the area of terrain analysis in the Indian Army. With the geographic information system, a virtualize map for the area, where the military is deployed can be created. Moreover, a map for the Terrain beyond the fence, i.e., the enemy terrain can also be created by the available methods of remote sensing and analysis. In this paper, the North Sikkim plateau region, which is an important tactical location for the Indian Army, has been taken as an example for the demonstration of the same. Virtual maps designed using GIS can facilitate combat decision making, accuracy of command and battle readiness.
