Examining the Lived Experiences among Indian Transgender Individuals in Education

Abstract
Transgender or Third Gender in India is referred to many terminologies such as Hijras, Kinnar, and Jogappa etc. They belong to a different social communitytogether. Based on this they are discriminated against and bullied in school. Their experiences in their early school days and their unmet needs are rarely being studied.A qualitative approach was used to exploretheir lived experience in early Education of 4 individuals in Bangalore. In-Depth interview was conducted with a subsequent transcription. Thematic Analysis was used to analyze the data. A total of 5 superordinate themes were identified (Challenges in Self Disclosure, Peer Relationship, Teacher relationship, Impact on Employment, Suggestions in Education Status) This study adds to the understanding of their lived experiences in their early education.
