Paper Title
Understanding the Evolution of India’s Trade and FTA Policy

Abstract
This paper traces the evolution of India’s Trade Policy since independence and its movement from an inward-looking to an outward-looking economy. India’s Trade Policy regime can be categorised into four phases, with each aiming to fulfil its own specific objectives for the Indian economy, but recently there has been an added focus in integrating with the global economy, by focusing on Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Its however, important to create a balance in the level of this integration that India should have so that it creates an upward spiral for the domestic industry.
