DETERMINANTS OF CAPITAL DEPLETION ON PUNJAB FARMS: AN EMPIRICAL AND SPATIAL ANALYSIS

Abstract
The study was based on 251 randomly selected various sized farm holdings from the three agro-climatic zones of Punjab State. The primary data pertaining to theagricultural year 2019-20were collected. The power function was used to examine the relationship of capital depletion with impact variables. The key findings showed thatthe returns from crops were higher in zone II followed by zone III and I.The regression analysis revealed that the capital depletion had a negative relationship with farm size and indicated that the fixed farm resources were better managed on large farms as compared to the smaller ones. The cropping intensity failed to reveal any significant relationship with the capital depletion. The four variables namely the intensity of use, monetary value of resources, maintenance cost and capital formation had a positive relationship with capital depletion. The depletion of capital assets was found to be higher in zone II followed by zone III and I. Keywords - Impact Variables, Fixed Farm Assets, Cropping Intensity, Intensity of use, Capital Formation.
