Paper Title
Variable Steering Mechanism

Abstract
80 percent of automobile steering systems use rack and pinion system as its mechanism. Many studies have suggested complicated mechanical and electronic systems for variable steering. Here we suggest a simple Elliptical rack and pinion gear which achieves variable steering ratio. ATVs are required to maneuver through tight turns, by using elliptical pinion and curved rack gear instead of conventional circular gear and straight rack variable steering effort can be achieved. As pinion moves from major axis to minor axis steering effort is reduced helping accurate and easy maneuvering by variable steering sensitivity to steering input. The following study highlights design calculations of gears, design using KISSOFT software, motion simulation in ADAMS software, static and transient analysis using ANSYS software Keywords - Variable Steering Ratio, Steering Sensitivity, Elliptical Gear
