A Cross Section Study to Assess the Prevelance of Vit B12 Defiency in Hypothyroid Patients

Abstract
Vit D deficiency has been reported in hypothyroid patients with variable prevalence rates thus routine screening of hypothyroid patients was recommended by some and discouraged by others. We aimed to assess the prevalence of D3 deficiency among hypothyroid patients . A period-based study was conducted with 50 patients. Haemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), anti thyroid antibodies, thyroid function tests and vitamin B12 levels were measured. In Mean age was 43.5 years.38(76%) were females and rest 12 were males. Vit B12 defiency was seen in 33(66%) patients wit h mean TSH of 3.8 was seen. 74% of them were already receiving levo thyroxine therapy with mean dose of 97.2 μg was seen.
