Challenges Faced by Farmers with Respect to Adopting High-Density Apple Cultivation: A Study on Districts Baramulla and Budgam

Abstract
Apple sector is the main source of livelihood to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. More than 70% of apple production comes from Jammu and Kashmir. The average productivity of fruit is low (10 mt/ha) in India as compared to other countries (60-70 mt/ha). High Density Variety helps a fruit grower to achieve high productivity, but it needs a lot of investment in the beginning, which is very challenging for the farmer, State Governments as well as Centre Government (Majid et al., 2018).the paper explains the challenges of Ultra High density apples growers and their possible solutions. There are 140 high density apple growers who adopted this scheme in districts of Baramulla and Budgam. Pilot survey of 14 growers of ultra high density of apple in districts of Baramulla and Budgam was done in 2022-2023. This paper also analysis the challenges faced by ultra high density apple growers and Henry Garrett Ranking method was used.
