Paper Title
Internet of Things (IoT) and Free and open Source Software (FOSS) Enabled Learning Environments: A Cyber-Physical Pragmatic Approach to Improved Student Creativity
Abstract
Pedagogy at the K-12 level today has become a function of technological innovations and this relationship becomes even more promising when used to address the educational needs of the constantly changing and fast evolving online and mobile enabled education. Conventional learning management systems when combined with free and open source technology (FOSS) and internet of things (IoT) based cyber-physical technology have the potential of empowering future teachers with not only the knowledge and insights but also with the ability to sense and respond to the unanticipated changes of the education system and students’ knowledge demands. The objective of this mixed methods research paper is to conceptualize and empirically test an integrated framework that combines the free and open source software based pedagogical tools with the ‘IoT based technologies’ to yield a learning environment that augments the creativity of students. We envisage that this approach can be used in various mixes to produce highly motivating and effective educational environments. We illustrate this work by describing the application of these ideas to a real-world venture, the CrInnLab (in Indian and South Asian context).
