A Phishing Detection Strategy using Visual Cryptography

Abstract
Internet plays a decisive role in our day-to-day life. Online media made the user do all transactions easier. Instead of standing in a "Q‟ for a long time, the user tries to complete his work online. There are different types of attacks to misuse the online system. Every single application which uses security includes authentication process with username and password. Phishing is an effort by a personality or a group to burgle personal, confidential data such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by disguising a legitimate entity in an electronic communication. So, it is very much important for users to identify a fake website and avoid falling prey to it. In this paper an approach using visual cryptography is used to solve the problem of phishing. An image-based authentication using Visual Cryptography (VC) is being used here. VC is used to guard the privateness of the image captcha with the aid of breaking down it into shares which might be stored in separate database servers (one with user and one with server) so that the original image captcha is shown only when both the parts are simultaneously stacked.
