Paper Title
Consumer acceptance of mobile wallets during the coronavirus pandemic
Abstract
In the mobile wallet sector, the evolution has led to widespread use of mobile wallets for a wide range of uses. The study's primary objective is to learn how many people are open to using mobile wallets during the current coronavirus pandemic. India's government, led by Hon. Prime Minister N. Modi, instituted a lockdown on March 24, 2020, and it lasted for more than 20 days. To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus illness, the Indian government imposed severe restrictions on the freedom of movement of the whole population. 68 percent of Indian customers, according to a recent research by FIS, do their financial activities via online or mobile banking. The research also indicated that as a result of the epidemic, 48% of respondents expected to use contactless payments rather than using cash or plastic. It indicates that shoppers' habits have undergone a dramatic change from their usual practices. According to the results, older customers and members of Generation Y showed greater flexibility in adapting to new payment methods than consumers of any other age group. In order to discuss the overall goal or behavior of people to use mobile wallet systems in India, especially after 24 March 2020, this study employs the existing mobile TAM (technology acceptance model) based on the Self-efficacy Theory, the Protection Motivation Theory, and the critical mass theory. Individuals who had started using mobile wallets for the first time after the initial lockout was announced in India were surveyed using a selfadministered questionnaire to acquire primary data. To get consumers to start using mobile wallets who hadn't before, researchers looked at a variety of factors that are known to have a favorable correlation with adoption rates. The study aims to discover the precise factors that optimally influenced the uptake of mobile payment systems following the onset of the epidemic. Given the severity of the pandemic, this research aims to develop a more comprehensive technological acceptance model. As a result of the CoV19 pandemic, the model explains 58% of the variation in BI behavioral intent to embrace m-wallet apps.
