DIVERSITY OF VISITING INSECTS ON RICE PADDY (ORYZA SATIVA) AT GHATAL, MIDNAPORE, WEST BENGAL, INDIA

Abstract
Abstract: OBJETIVE The present study was surveyed a qualitative and quantitative assessment of diversity of visiting insectson rice paddy (Oryza sativa) during pre-monsoon months (2022) in Ghatal area, West Bengal, India. METHODS A 500m line transect was carried out to know the qualitative and quantitative assessment of insect species. The visiting insect species diversity indices such as total specimens (N), Shannon diversity index (H'), Index of Dominance (C), Berger-Parker Dominance Index, and Margalef’s species richness index (S) and Gini coefficient (G) index were calculated. There were about 12 types of varieties of species were recorded. RESULTS A maximum number of specimens under the family Muscidae followed by Stratiomyidae, Bracoinidae and Corridae were recorded in the study sites. Different diversity indices indicated that total of about 863 nos. of organisms were recorded.Different indices such as Shannon diversity index, Index of Dominance, and Margalef species richness index, Berger-Parker Dominance Index and Gini coefficient value 2.40, 0.90, 0.14, 1.60 and 0.23, respectively were observed. CONCLUSION It is concluded that the rice paddyattractsmultiple insect species and these help pollination to better yield of rice crop. Future study should be emphasized to know the soil quality and the accumulation of metal(loids) and insecticides in this crop specimen due to the usage of synthetic pest control method.
