Paper Title
ASSESSMENT OF MICRONUCLEATION AND ABNORMAL NUCLEATION IN THE PERIPHERAL ERYTHROCYTES OF SELECTED FISH SPECIES
Abstract
Abstract -
OBJECTIVE
The present study was attempted to evaluate genotoxicity especially micronucleation (MN) and nuclear abnormalities (NAs) in the peripheral erythrocytesof two selected fish species (Labeo bata and Oreochromis sp.).
METHODS
These fishes were collected from two sites (site A and B) of East Kolkata wetlands, blood drawn from heart, smeared, and stained with Giemsa followed by scoring of percentage frequency of MN and NAs.
RESULTS
In the present study for L. bata, MN frequency (%) was higher in the site B (0.67± 0.08) without significant change when compared to site A (0.50±0.05). The frequency (%) of NAs such as LN (1.18±0.06), BN (0.21±0.03), DSN (0.93±0.09), VC (1.28±0.04), RN (0.62± 0.06), and NC (1.30±0.06) values were also increased in the site B without significant change when compared to site A (0.97±0.08, 0.17±0.04, 0.89±0.11, 1.20±0.06, 0.51±0.07 and 1.19± 0.07, respectively). ForOreochromis sp., MN frequency (%) was higher in the site B (0.73±0.07) without significant change when compared to site A (0.55±0.04). The frequency (%) of NAs such as LN (1.28±0.04), BN (0.28±0.02), DSN (1.22±0.06), VC (1.37±0.05), RN (0.68±0.04)and NC (1.31±0.04) values were also increased in the site B without significant change when compared to site A (1.20±0.05, 0.21±0.04, 1.13±0.05, 1.32±0.05, 0.60±0.05 and 1.23±0.04, respectively).
CONCLUSION
It is concluded that the genotoxicity through MN and NAs test in these studied fish was comparatively lower level of mutation risk, which may be due to COVID-19 pandemic followed by lockdown. Moreover, lockdown helps to better the environment. Future study should be conducted to know the environmental health of this waterbody.
