Paper Title
IDENTIFYING THE ARCHETYPE OF ‘SCARLET WOMAN’ IN THE NOVELLA UNVEILED THROUGH MARC CHAGALL`S LITHOGRAPH TAMAR, JUDAH`S DAUGHTER-IN-LAW
Abstract
Abstract - This research paper focuses on the identification of the ‘Scarlet Woman’ archetype in the Francine Rivers’ novella Unveiled in her historical fiction novel A Lineage of Grace. Centered around the first matriarch of Christ, Tamar, this paper is a scrutiny on the presence of Biblical women represented through religious art. The focal point lies in bringing to the limelight a lesser known, yet important woman who played a pivotal role in the ensuing genealogy of Christ. Just like religion, art has been an unavoidable and important element of human experience since time immemorial. Far from being considered a potential candidate for misogynistic interpretations, the lithograph of Tamar is the representation of the ‘scarlet woman’ present deep down in every woman. The paper closely examines how the study of religious art and literature is a one- fold dimension that allows better understanding of a woman and her psyche. The researcher as a New Historicist reinforces the ‘voice’ in every woman who has been pushed to marginal borders and whose actions have an and rocentric taste to it.
