An Investigation into High School Students' Attitudes Towards Non- prestigious or Unpopular College Majors or Unconventional Careers: Shifting the Narrative

Abstract
In a world where most parents and students prioritise careers in medicine, engineering, the legal profession, or business administration after high school, many also have a favourable impression of careers in astrology, hospitality, cooking, DJing, painting, choreography, etc. Many high school graduates have opted for these programmes because they offer a distinctive path to professional success. Following their passions, students often choose careers and academic programmes that are less prestigious, less well-known, and less traditional. The undertaken paper discusses about the influences and perception of high school students regarding non-prestigious, unpopular and unconventional career or courses and how have the old narratives about these courses changed in the new generation has been presented. The primary objective of the paper is to evaluate, which courses are considered as Non-prestigious, Unpopular, or unconventional, to analyse what are students' perspectives towards Non-prestigious, Unpopular or unconventional courses in India, and to study how various Non-prestigious, Unpopular, or unconventional courses in India provides a wider futuristic opportunity to students in India. Using a secondary data collection method and carrying out qualitative analysis, this paper came to the conclusion that non-prestigious, unpopular, and unconventional careers or courses have been found to promote students' interest. In addition, these courses can help students discover their true passions and interests, which can lead them towards a fulfilling career path. This paper's findings are presented here.
