BOVINE MILK OLIGOSACCHARIDES: FUTURE OF NUTRACEUTICALS
Abstract
Abstract - Human Milk is critically unique and exclusive due to its prebiotic properties majorly due to the presence of complex sugars known as Human milk oligosaccharides. These Oligosaccharides function as selective growth substrates for certain beneficial bacterial species in the gastrointestinal system. Thus, isolating similar structures from other possible sources can create a huge impact on the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries and can create health supplements and alternative infant food formulas. This paper discusses the similarities between human milk oligosaccharides and bovine milk oligosaccharides and developments in isolating bovine oligosaccharides from industrial dairy streams. The advancements in process optimization techniques for the extraction process show a promising future for the nutrition, nutraceutical and Infant food industries.
