A SURVEY ON THE STATUS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY IN SELECTED PRIVATE SCHOOLS OF DUNGARPUR DISTRICT IN RAJASTHAN WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO ENGLISH SPEAKING

Abstract
The study aims to present the status of English proficiency levels in some schools of Dungarpur district Rajasthan. It also focuses on difficulties and barriers to English language fluency. The study was conducted through a questionnaire, which was circulated to teaching faculties of schools. 75 faculties from various private schools in Rajasthan were enquired. The results were analyzed on the basis of the responses statistically. Through the study, it was found that even after using the medium of instruction English, students are unable to speak English fluently. They face various difficulties in speaking. Whether the focus is English speaking but the data was collected from all subject teachers to know if the students get the English learning environment all over the day or only in English subjectlectures. There are various factors that affect the learning of students. Moreover, The English language curriculum was also analyzed to check the possibility of speaking exercises in the classroom, which were found less. The curriculum of English subjects from both the Central and State Board is checked. It is found that focus on reading and writing skills is given more than listening and speaking skills. Furthermore, the reasons behind the lack of proficiency in English subject is discussed. Keywords - English Language, Speaking, Proficiency, Students.
